The Alberta Chief Firearms Office (ACFO) was established in September 2021 and administers the federal Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) to Albertans. The federal Firearms Act and Part III of the Criminal Code regulate the actions of the CFP.
The ACFO support safe communities by regulating the ownership, purchase, movement and use of firearms within the province through the responsible administration of the federal Firearms Act.

Role
You will support the Chief Firearms Offer (ADM) in addition to the broader administration of the ACFO. You will have a leadership role in the development and implementation of administrative processes within the ACFO and manages information flow liaising extensively with the offices of the Minister, Deputy Minister, and other senior department representatives through managing the Action Request Tracking System.
Significant aspects of this position include committing the CFO and DCFO to meetings with stakeholders, partners, and public engagement and outreach section; researching, compiling, and summarizing background material for the DCFO and CFO; and carrying out special projects on behalf of or as delegated by the CFO. The Administrative Assistant also supervises all administrative staff assigned to the ACFO.
The Administrative Assistant to the CFO functions within, and ensures that other administrative staff in the division comply with, applicable Government and department legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards. This includes serving as a source of expertise for 1GX and procurement.
Qualifications
High School diploma and four years progressively related experience. Related experience includes Executive Support within an Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office or Branch Administrator within an Executive Directors Office. Previous or Current experience with 1GX scheduling is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have significant internal GOA experience.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of
- One year of education for one year of experience or
- One year of experience for one year of education.
