Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to approximately 1 million visitors annually.

We are currently seeking a regular part-time Art Educator, French Language to join our Education & Programming team. Under the direction of the Manager, School Programs and Early Learning, the incumbent will work in conjunction with other staff, volunteers and interns, and designs and facilitates programs including in gallery and studio based, in both French and English languages that are engaging, innovative, child-centred, fun, accessible and equitable, as well as responsive to visitor needs and program objectives.

He/She/They will deliver a range school programs for elementary and secondary school students that emphasize process and product equally, encouraging the development of critical thinking skills, decolonization, and personal creativity. Also delivers French Language tours to adult groups when required. Co-designs and delivers innovative professional development resources for teachers that are relevant and timely to the field of art education that connect with the AGO collection, and promote inquiry-based learning and reflective practice. Ensures that program delivery is responsive to teacher needs and clearly meets the program objectives.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Post-secondary studies in Education, Art Education, Fine Art, Museum Education, or Art History with some studio experience and/or equivalent life and work experience
  • Demonstrated teaching experience (minimum 2 years) in formal and/or informal learning environments involving children and youth, as well as adults in both English and French Language
  • Must be fluent in French, and able to deliver programs in French and English
  • Demonstrated experience in program facilitation, for students and educators
  • Sound knowledge of learning theories and teaching methodologies as well as various media, techniques and practices relevant to in-gallery and studio-based practices
  • Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum as mandated by the Ministry of Education
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and excellent customer service
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and self-reflective
  • Demonstrated computer competency and keyboarding skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
