We are seeking a qualified, engaged employee to work as part of a collaborative, high performing team to fill a permanent position as a Buyer or Senior Buyer within the Purchasing department. Position level will be dependent on the candidate’s overall skills and experience.
Buyers and Senior Buyers will have the opportunity to work in different Purchasing categories throughout their career depending on business need. The current business need is in the Project Sourcing category. Other purchasing categories include Onsite Contracting, MRO (Part Sourcing), Raw Materials Sourcing.
The successful candidate performing in the role of Buyer / Senior Buyer – Project Sourcing category, will manage the procurement process for assigned capital/maintenance projects, with the goal of ensuring projects meet or exceed targets, budgets, and timelines. This individual will work with cross functional teams and lead the procurement of equipment and services for assigned projects: competitive bid process, contract development, negotiation, analysis, contract change management, issue resolution and supplier management.

Overall Responsibility:
- Buyer: Apply the Purchase Order Fulfillment (POF) process to procure goods and services for assigned categories and manage category costs through appropriate analysis, negotiations and price management in order to meet service level expectations of the POF process stakeholders
- Senior Buyer: Apply the Purchase Order Fulfillment (POF) process to procure goods and services for assigned categories and manage category costs through appropriate analysis, negotiations and price management in order to meet service level expectations of the POF process stakeholders. Independently lead significant purchase initiatives with high business impact.
Accountabilities:
- Manage the POF process for assigned categories through adherence to the supporting processes: negotiations, invoicing, price management, supplier management, inventory management, contract design, receipt of goods, Purchase Quality System.
- Prepare and lead bid specifications, analyze quotes, evaluate products/services and award purchase orders consistent with the POF process.
- Demonstrate the use of total cost of ownership analysis for assigned categories also applying Negotiation, Price management processes and analysis techniques.
- Communicate information to stakeholders relative to contracts, bid arrangements, services, guarantees, warrantees, prices, etc.
- Evaluate and record supplier performance, identify corrective action, set improvement targets and recommend appropriate recognition to suppliers and Sourcing.
- Provide coordination and work direction for Procurement Team resources.
- Buyer:
- Participate in process improvement efforts, implementation of Sourcing procedures, negotiation activities and Supplier cost reduction efforts.
- Ensure an efficient and conflict free interface between the plant and suppliers by managing contracts and resolving problems in delivery, scheduling, scope changes, price issues and quality concerns.
- Develop relationships with stakeholders, including Suppliers, Business Units, and all teams within Purchasing & Logistics.
- Senior Buyer:
- Senior Buyer: Lead in major negotiation activities and supplier cost reduction efforts resulting in quantifiable savings to support the overall Purchasing Business Plan.
- Act as the lead facilitator to resolve conflict between the plant and suppliers by managing contracts and resolving problems in delivery, scheduling, scope changes, price issues and quality concerns.
- Lead individuals and teams through the development of relationship building with stakeholders, including Suppliers, Business Units, and all teams within Purchasing & Logistics.

- Good problem solving skills through economic and financial analysis is required.

- Good project management, time management and organizational skills are required.
- Good report writing and presentation skills are required.
- Senior Buyer: Good coaching and mentoring skills are required.
- Working knowledge of category sourcing procedures and applicable laws, standards and procedures of assigned categories are required.
- Working knowledge of Purchasing Business Systems, long-term purchasing strategy, annual procurement goals are required.
- Advanced knowledge of assigned categories and the fundamentals of the supply markets and supply base are required.
- For the Project Sourcing category: the successful candidate will have advanced knowledge to manage the procurement for capital/maintenance projects, including contract development, negotiation, and creation/negotiation of Equipment and Installation/Construction contracts in order to manage risk and meet/exceed project budgets and timelines.
- Working knowledge of all Purchase Order Fulfillment processes are required.
- Working / Advanced knowledge of Purchasing Negotiation and Price Management processes are required.
- Working knowledge of Marketing for the By-Products (category) Buyer is required.
- Basic knowledge of how the Manufacturing process operates in relation to assigned categories is required.
- Good personal computer standard corporate software applications and applicable systems skills are required.
- Competencies: Decision Making and Analysis, Results Orientation, Teamwork.
Education & Experience:
- Buyer
- Minimum 4-year University Degree in Engineering/Business or equivalent work experience.
- Senior Buyer:
- Minimum 4-year University Degree in Engineering/Business and 4-7 years job related experience is required (Senior Buyer).
Work Environment:
- Office working environment with some requirements to meet in the plant/manufacturing facilities or with suppliers which will require the wearing of personal protective equipment.
- This position is currently eligible for remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the future, this position may be eligible to work remote on an ad hoc or part time basis.
Hours of Work:
- Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads.
- Flexibility to determine workday start and end times, to fit personal needs.
