RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The Research MRI technologist will provide technical support for specific research using MRI as assigned based on research funding and needs. They will work under the supervision of Dr. Matthias Friedrich and other medical personnel.

General Duties
The Cardiac MRI Technologist will work on tasks revolving around their research project and is not limited to the following:

  • Operate MRI scanners for human imaging following the protocol,
  • Perform basic quality control testing and equipment warm-up procedures,
  • Ensure proper participant preparation for examination as required, including MRI safety screening,
  • Inject MRI contrast media (by hand or via pressure injector) where applicable. Must have IV certification,
  • Report all incidents to appropriate personnel and participate in follow-up action as required,
  • Actively participate in education programs (Workshop, Conference etc.),
  • Review all pertinent documents / manuals annually or as required, including: Technical Protocols, Policies and Procedures, Emergency Procedures, Infection Control, OTIMROEPMQ Standards of Practice, CPR,
  • Provide up to date availability in a timely manner,
  • Work under the supervision of the CMR supervisor and Project manager.

Education / Experience

  • Possession of a DEC minimum,
  • Registered with the OTIMROEPMQ,
  • Ability to perform diagnostic imaging procedures (MRI) to professional standards,
  • CPR C certified,
  • Good oral and written communication skills,
  • Excellent organization and time management skills,
  • Ability to multi-task,
  • Ability to work independently with minimum direction,
  • Ability to be flexible in order to meet the needs of a variety of research protocols,
  • Ability to work closely with principal investigators and their study team,
  • Ability for logical, independent problem solving, and attention to detail and process,
  • Experience in a research imaging environment an asset,
  • Spoken and written English and French.

Asset: Knowledge of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Additional information

Status: Temporary part-time, between 5 and 15 hours per week
Pay Scale: $23.22 – $43.11 per hour, commensurate with education & work experience
Work Shift: Day, evening and weekends
