Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the team as a Clinical Educator at CG Comm-Squamish Health Unit in Squamish, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Clinical Educator, Nursing with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Lead and assess current and future clinical education needs of inter-professional staff based on an assigned geographical area/population.
  • Provide and/or arrange for clinical education services including individual and group learning assessments, designs, develops, implements and evaluates clinical education programs and clinical practice resources using specialized theory and knowledge including teaching learning principles and processes.
  • Develop trauma informed practice that incorporates appropriate cultural diversity, equity and inclusion as a cornerstone of their work.
  • Consult, confer and collaborate with program and team members including other educators and leaders at educational institutions in the promotion of continuous quality improvement, resolution of clinical education issues and coordination of activities required for progressive educational and clinical practice programs.
  • Collaborate with Practice Initiative Leads to coordinate interdisciplinary staff education that support a collaborative practice model within the designated area.
  • Provide leadership and expertise related to their designated clinical and geographical area for Vancouver Coastal Health staff, community programs and other stakeholders.
  • Take corrective action with respect to individual and group learning needs and ensures mechanisms are in place to support inter-professional staff in continuous development.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members and other health care professionals/providers to achieve excellence in health services and education.

This position may be required to work at more than one location/site across assigned geographical areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of applicable certificate and/or certified practice in the designated clinical area, plus three (3) years’ recent related public health nursing experience including experience related to the designated clinical area and one (1) year recent supervisory/leadership/teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current BCCDC Immunization certification.
  • Positions supporting Child & Youth and Sexual Health programs require BCCNM Certified Practice in Reproductive Health (Contraceptive Management & STI).
  • Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes. Regional travel across assigned geographic areas may be required, and will be compensated in accordance with applicable collective agreement provisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of public health: immunization, communicable disease control, sexual health, 0-5 & maternal child and child/youth and school health.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of issues in applicable service area including current trends, best practices and modalities of treatment.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion, trauma informed, DEI practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to model and foster a positive, collaborative and respectful team working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously communicate effectively and strategically with colleagues and health care staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of adult education principles, methods, tools and practice within a client/family centred care model.
  • Knowledge of the Community Health Nurse of Canada (CHNC) competencies and standards of practice.
  • Knowledge of provincial acts, regulations, program policies and guidelines related to Public Health.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skill of clinical practice related to care management and interventions and care of the designated client populations.
  • Knowledge of community resources available for client/family support and related health services and other health care professions and their role in client care.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and standards of care across the continuums.
  • Knowledge of research, quality improvement, evaluation process and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess learning needs and apply appropriate methodologies based on individual learning styles including ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and lead and use critical thinking in facilitation of learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ effective conflict resolution, reconciliation approaches and techniques including adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport, trust and ethical relationships with other health care professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, schedule and prioritize work including ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
