Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Director, Office of the Dean and working collaboratively with several partners across the Faculty, the Digital Media Specialist is an accomplished storyteller who has deep experience creating engaging and compelling video and photography to bring U of T Engineering’s stories to life.
The incumbent will work with a range of project partners and internal stakeholders to assess needs and goals, then storyboard, coordinate, shoot, edit and package material into multiple formats for distribution through a range of channels. The incumbent is detail-oriented and deadline-driven with the ability to juggle several projects on different timelines independently. The Digital Media Specialist enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and within established brand standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Researching and recommending production topics
- Planning and developing pre-production video ideas into outlines, scripts and story boards
- Determining logistics required for photoshoots
- Scheduling production activities
- Setting up photography and video equipment
- Conducting photography and/or videography shoots
- Editing post-production audio and/or visual material
- Maintaining a repository of digital media records
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Media Production, Communication, Broadcasting, or related field and/or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum six to seven years of direct experience in a variety of video/photographic productions
- Experience creating both short and long form content
- Experience creating video productions related to Engineering or Science
- Expert in sound and lighting design, colour correction, colour grading and audio mixing
- Extensive experience using video production equipment, including DSLR cameras, mixers, editing software and audio equipment
- Proven experience turning innovative story concepts into reality
- Experience preparing subjects for on-screen appearances and interviews
- Experience working in both team units and independently
- Demonstrated creativity and the ability to tell original, compelling stories, including planning and developing pre-production video ideas into outlines, scripts, and story boards
- Superior communication skills, both oral and written
- Must have good video project management skills and have a strong understanding of content marketing best practices, including required outputs for different communications channels (e.g., social media platforms ) and captioning requirements
- Demonstrated ability to perform filming, photography and editing duties independently
- Creative, resourceful and solutions-oriented; able to manage priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines
- Strong organizational skills and highly developed relationship-management skills

- Ability to travel outside of the GTA for stories when necessary
