Purpose
Leads and oversees product analytics, competitive intelligence and research / asset management in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Leads a team of four FTE; plays a key role on the Asset Management Product Team management committee. Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Develop senior relationships across the industry to help shape and model competitive intelligence and early thinking in front of emerging trends.
- Lead thought leadership for the Asset Management leadership team in investment trends, competitive positioning and provide input to help shape strategic direction for the broader business.
- Drive three key areas of accountability that includes research, industry data management (IFIC data sets; SI data sets) and data analytics (3rd party data providers such as MS Direct) for the Canadian Asset Management business line covering proprietary distribution, external distribution and institutional channels.
Research:
- Collection, analysis and distribution of relevant industry research covering retail and institutional business lines Drives Voice of the Client research across distribution channels. This includes Financial Advisor focus groups, unitholder research, Mobile Advice Team research, Environics Investment Advisor research and Institutional channel research
- Design and implement product concept and investment solution research that can be both qualitative and quantitative
- Manage the development and distribution of the semi-annual Scotia Global Asset Management Investor Sentiment Index
Data Management:
- Responsible for the consolidation and reporting of retail industry gross and net flow information for mutual funds and ETFs primarily through the IFIC data set
- Competitive benchmarking and reporting on core Canadian competitive set including banks, independents, private client investment counsel firms and institutional asset managers
- Industry analysis on key trends including product manufacturing, asset classes, pricing, series, bundling and investment dealer shelf management
Product and Solution Analytics:
- Responsible for the team running product analytics for the independent channel and Mobile Advice Team Responsible for the team running portfolio solution analytics for the Systemized Solutions Sales Team and the Mobile Advice Team
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment that pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education/Experience:
- 8-10 years experience in competitive intelligence and data analytics within asset management
- Understanding of investment industry trends
- Strong presenter
- Customer research experience
- Well-developed understanding of data analytics
- Strong relationship management skills
- Channel spike in independent distribution
