Job title: Director – Restaurant Operations

Job description: It’s no secret, the global pandemic has negatively impacted the foodservice industry. Some organizations will scramble to recover, others proved to be agile and were well-positioned with their consumer offering and format. With current consumer trends towards healthier living and eating, combined with a stellar management team, our client is in a great position to expand their current retail foodservice footprint across Canada and the US. We are seeking a Director of Restaurant Operations to join the Vancouver-based team reporting to the CEO to work on delivering substantial restaurant growth over the next few years.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the full spectrum of real estate assets related to leased space and work directly with landlords and brokers to meet spatial requirements
  • Negotiate terms of all lease agreements including offers to lease and conditions of leases
  • Develop and manage the new location pipeline for North America including facilitating site visits, market tours and collaborating with the executive team for cross-functional alignment
  • Oversee all renovation processes and upgrading of existing retail outlets
  • Act as a champion of the Restaurant Operations group when liaising with key internal departments – Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Sales and Marketing
  • Hire and staff location employees including a Shop Manager to report directly into your position
  • Perform market analysis and site selection
  • Manage critical dates relating to existing leases
  • Manage the full P&L for the division
  • Negotiate best in class lease renewals and rent restructuring deals including presenting terms to Capital Committee for approval
  • Prepare and present proformas to the Capital Committee as part of the approval process
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure new restaurants are opened on time, on-brand, and within the approved budget guidelines
  • Interface with in-house legal to review, negotiate and finalize leases and coordinate various lease issues
  • Maintain relationships with landlords and brokers
  • Ensure branding and image consistency across all storefronts
  • Develop standard operating procedures, policies, and operational guidelines
  • Drive financial profitability of operations through reporting, annual and quarterly budgeting

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Commerce, Business, Commercial Real Estate, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience managing a portfolio in a retail, restaurant, hospitality, or landlord environment
  • Experience expanding retail and restaurant footprints in North America. International experience considered a big asset
  • Excellent negotiation skills and exhibit the ability to run multiple real estate projects over long intervals
  • Knowledge of best practices for POS technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build cross-functional relationships, specifically in terms of landlord relationships
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and cloud-based systems
  • Self-motivated leadership with strong decision making, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • The ability to manage and execute multiple project deliverables under tight deadlines
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to travel within North America
