The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $78,387- $88,223 starting salary determined by the PEA .
Performance range: starting salary to max of $102,875 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
The Division of Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation (LTSI) is an academic support Division in the University, which reports to the Office of the Vice President Academic and Provost. The division has five portfolios of responsibility including: Teaching Excellence, Technology Integrated Learning, Student Academic Success, and Curriculum Renewal & Strategic Initiatives; and Community-engaged Learning. The Division is focused on enhancing student learning and teaching excellence in academic programs across the University in alignment with the UVic Strategic Framework and Priorities.
The Program Director of Technology Integrated Learning, in the Division of Learning and Teaching Innovation and Support, is a leadership position to advance the learning and teaching goals of the University. The position reports to the Executive Director, Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation, and works in close collaboration with the other portfolio Program Directors in the Division, leadership in other administrative units, such as University Systems and Student Services, and with chairs, faculty, instructional staff and students to advance the university’s commitment to high quality learning and teaching. .
Under the strategic direction of the Division Executive Director, the Program Director is tasked with providing leadership, strategic direction and operational oversight for the Technology Integrated Learning portfolio:
- Providing leadership of the effective pedagogical use of learning technologies; and the administrative leadership and domain expertise for technology enhanced learning for in-person, blended, fully online, and multi-access teaching and for the continuous development and support of UVic’s centrally supported learning technology ecosystem, consisting of Brightspace, Echo360, Online Academic Community, Zoom, Teams, and others.
- Providing operational oversight for the Technology Integrated Learning Portfolio, a team of managers and support staff with 20+ combined direct/indirect reports. This includes dedicated support teams for each faculty providing both pedagogical support (Learning Experience Designers) and technology support (Educational Technologist Specialists). It also includes oversight of continuous development, improvement, and maintenance of the Learning Technology Ecosystem.
- Serving as a vital link across the Division for technology enhanced learning and teaching. This includes collaborating with other Program Directors on cross-program initiatives and strategies, participating as a member of LTSI Leadership Council on shared initiatives, working with LTSI Faculty Consultant(s) to provide advice and expertise regarding the portfolio area.
- Representing LTSI to provide pedagogical leadership for learning technology supports and infrastructure across the University and beyond. This includes providing advice and collaborating with academic and support units to build opportunities for the inclusion of pedagogically sound learning technologies with an emphasis on student success and excellent teaching practices (e.g. Systems, Privacy Office), sitting on university-level committees (e.g., Classroom Infrastructure Committee).
Job Requirements
This position requires a doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., education, interdisciplinary, scholarship of learning and teaching), a strong record of positive and collaborative relationships with faculty, students and staff, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent with:
- Successful academic and program development ; including teaching experience using learning technologies effectively in post-secondary
- Exploring and creating educational opportunities
- Academic administration
- Leadership experience specific to technology enhanced learning, digital pedagogy and educational technology
- Supporting teaching excellence and student academic success, including course, curriculum, or program development, implementation, and evaluation in face-to-face, blended, and online environments
- Project development and oversight
- Budget preparation and oversight
- Leading and managing a team
Knowledge requirements include:
- Current expertise in the area of technology enhanced learning or digital pedagogy.
- Knowledge of technology enhanced learning principles, trends, challenges and opportunities in post-secondary education
- Knowledge of, and experience with a range of learning technologies, such as Brightspace, Echo360, Zoom, Teams, Online Academic Community (WordPress), iClickers, etc.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, developing and implementing innovation and policy within an academic environment
- Knowledge of practices and approaches for decolonizing and Indigenizing courses and curricula
- Knowledge of equity and anti-racism in educational environments
- Knowledge of key pedagogical issues from a technology enhanced lens, including universal design for learning, accessibility, open educational resources, learning analytics, digital literacy, hybrid modalities, and technology enhanced and authentic assessment.
- Current knowledge and engagement with the scholarship of learning and teaching in relation to digital pedagogies.
