Alberta Education provides leadership, direction and oversight in the development and delivery of an innovative, collaborative, student-centered education system. We support students, parents, teachers and administrators from Early Childhood Services (ECS) through Grade 12.

The System Assurance Branch works collaboratively with business and program areas across the division and ministry to inform decision making through data analysis, modelling, business intelligence exploration, large-scale assessment, system assurance, applied research and program evaluation.

Role

If you are passionate about informing process through the provision of sophisticated psychometric leadership and advice, then this is the job for you!

As an Educational Assessment Specialist in the Branch, you will play an important role under the leadership of psychometricians in:

  • providing psychometric support and services to the large-scale provincial student assessments including, but not limited to, item development, test design, field testing, item analysis, standard setting, equating, scoring and reporting;
  • planning and developing business rules used in the provincial assessment scoring and reporting systems;
  • managing the psychometric aspects of the Division’s work, participating as a key resource in analytical projects and providing support for proper interpretation of the results and standards for provincial assessment; and
  • leading and coordinating the operations-based psychometric consultative, research and communication functions for other education professionals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Master’s degree in the field of educational measurement or a related field plus a minimum of five years of experience solving psychometric and statistical problems.
  • Experience working with psychometric statistics in a large-scale assessment context, including proven ability to build and test custom scoring and reporting systems.
  • Strong computing skills and high-level ability to work with large-scale data using software applications such as SPSS/SAS, Python and/or SQL, BILOG, CIPE, PARSCALE, R Packages, Visual Basic, MS Access, and/or MS Excel.

Assets:

  • Experience with the education system, structures, and policies of school authorities.
  • A PhD (or equivalent) in educational measurement or a related field.

Salary

$3,113.68 to $4,167.39 bi-weekly ($81,267 to $108,768 annually).
