Job description: The Opportunity:
Our client, a growing animal healthcare services provider, is looking for an Emergency Room Manager to join their Hospital in Scarborough. Reporting into the General Manager, this individual would be responsible for ensuring that the ER department has the resources and tools necessary to create and maintain positive and safe work environments, and a motivated, efficient team. They will work with their staff, Department Heads, and General Manager on an ongoing basis to assess and monitor needs, accomplish goals, and improve the overall integration of all department staff.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Provide leadership to a team of Registered Veterinary Technicians and Assistants, including on the floor assessments of workflow
- Create a positive, safe and efficient work environment by providing clear communication, establish staffing needs in collaboration with the Department Heads and submit requests for hiring additional full and part time positions
- Organize and provide guidance for specialized training to new hires and existing staff
- Perform consistent and regular follow up on outstanding issues with regards to workload, performance issues/challenges and other organizational/technical matters
- Apply progressive discipline when required in conjunction with HR
- Create and maintain protocols, policies and procedures, and overall good working conditions for a motivated team
- Work collaboratively with the General Manager and team of experienced veterinarians, to support requirements in the provision of clinical care and an exceptional client experience for Emergency Department clients
- Customer service training for staff including billing and invoicing for ER patients
- Management of the required medical logs (drugs, laboratory, radiology)
- Provision of the supports – staff, supplies, equipment – required for appropriate clinical care
- Managing the operations of the ER department
- Assisting with annual budgeting including revenue and expense projections, as well as managing to the forecasted budget throughout the year
- Monitoring the staff requirements to ensure the efficient operation of the department
- Working with the administrative staff to manage the accounts receivable, inventory, equipment purchase requirements, and the monthly reporting requirements for the Leadership team
What You’ll Need To Be Successful:
- 5+ years’ people leadership and management experience
- Good organizational and communication skills with the ability to develop positive interpersonal relationships in a busy, multi-departmental setting
- Understand the importance of exemplary customer service, while still focusing on productivity, maximizing efficiencies and profitability
- Comfortability around the medical space
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to adapt to and lead diverse personalities
