This position in the Design and Construction Division of the Engineering and Public Works Department, involves technical, administrative and field work relative to reviewing third party utility projects (Hydro, TELUS, Shaw, Fortis BC, etc.), and finding practical ways to ensuring that these works are well integrated with Coquitlam’s infrastructure. The position also assists with managing of some capital projects. The position requires a good understanding of municipal storm systems, sanitary sewer systems, water systems, and road infrastructure. You will review third party utility permits for projects of all sizes. You will also assist the Engineering Department front counter with assisting customers with resolving more complex and technical engineering issues, as needed. The successful candidate will need to establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts, and provide technical information, advice and interpretation of engineering requirements.

Your success in this role is dependent on your considerable knowledge of municipal storm water, sanitary sewer, and water systems, as well as surface infrastructure (roadways, sidewalk, street lights, etc.). You are very knowledgeable in reviewing engineering plans relative to all aspects of municipal infrastructure servicing and of the methods, practices, materials used in the construction and installation of municipal utilities.

You have a diploma in an appropriate discipline (such as Civil/Structural Engineering) from an institute of technology plus sound related municipal engineering experience. Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of BC is required.

A CUPE hourly rate of $38.73– $45.73 (2020 rates) is offered, with a competitive benefits package, and an earned day off program.
