Work Arrangements
The Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a Coordinator. This position takes effect September 1, 2022 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension(s) up to a maximum of three years. This role has 7 sections of time release available for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Role
This position is responsible for the development, oversight, support, and procurement of all elements relating to educational technology, with an emphasis on Health Sciences. The individual in this position provides the leadership to ensure a coherent educational technology strategy that is in alignment with college, faculty, and departmental strategic priorities. Working in collaboration with Health Science Coordinators and stakeholders, the individual in this position contributes to the development of excellence in all aspects of the Health Sciences learning community, with an emphasis on best practices in educational technology.
Positional Relationships:
- Reports to the Dean/Associate Dean Faculty of Health Sciences
- Works as a team with Health Science Faculty Coordinators (Experiential, Experiential Developmental, and Learning Strategy and Quality Assurance)
- Liaises with Health Science Faculty departmental stakeholders
- Works effectively with Manager Educational Resources and staff
- Serves on internal and external college committees in roles commensurate with the scope of positional responsibilities
Responsibilities
COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The faculty member in this position is responsible to:
- plan and make decisions about strategic and operational outcomes within the scope of positional responsibilities, based on consultative and collaborative practice;
- seek and implement collegial decisions;
- act on emergency issues requiring a decision, pending collegial resolution of the issues.
COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIPS:
- Health Sciences Council
- Integrated Learning Committee (ILC)
- Internal and External Committees commensurate with the scope of responsibilities and professional requirements
- Program Advisory Committee as appropriate in designated Health Science departments
- Departmental Coordinator/Faculty Meetings as required
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT:
- Facilitates the planning, development, and implementation of standards for educational technology for instructional purposes within Health Sciences
- Develops in consultation with relevant administrators, coordinators, and faculty the Health Sciences Technology budget, including but not limited to the operating capital budget and all related financial funds and activities
- Develops Health Simulation Technology strategic plans collaboratively and in line with educational outcomes of Health Science faculty programs
- Develops and coordinates policies, procedures, and practices, related to educational technology, as required
- Plans for all necessary approvals processes required for the operation and implementation of educational technology activities, procedures, policies and practices
- Identifies and keeps abreast and plans to incorporate emerging trends and best practices in educational technology
- Seeks out and develops a network of innovative educators with expertise in educational technology and innovative learning
- Plan tracking mechanism to evaluate educational technology effectiveness, participation and outcomes
- Plan orientation and learning activities related to educational technology outcomes
- Develops and designs processes for conducting selected pilots on new blended learning models, software, online subscription tools, internal development of pilot concepts, and future emerging trends
- Participates in the development of scholarly and evaluation activities relating to educational technology outcomes, or where this expertise is requested, and it is reasonable to accommodate the request
- Completes all planning and development responsibilities in a timely and effective
OPERATIONS AND LIASON
- Implements developed strategic plans related to Educational Technology in alignment with Health Science program outcomes
- Creates and manages technology processes that efficiently and effectively provide the Health Science Faculty and staff with the approved and budgeted resources required to carry out contractual responsibilities
- Completes and maintains a comprehensive inventory of Health Sciences assets and provides input into security measures to retain assets
- Ensures that all identified educational activities are coordinated for designated programs of responsibility
- Maintains shared accountability with Health Science Technology resources
- Identify recurring technology issues impacting educational outcomes related to internal structural issues and work with appropriate internal stakeholders to develop solutions
- Provide basic technical support and procures training for employees and students on technology-related matters
- Provides support to learning systems where educational technology expertise is required
- Supports all structural processes (such as e-accounts) related to and requiring educational technology expertise and assistance.
- Coordinates and conducts pilot projects related to educational technology.
- Develops and maintains effective communication strategies for communicating information to designated program faculty and liaisons
- Engages in team building and interprofessional activities in working with Health Sciences faculty in matters relating to educational technology
- Works as the operational and communications link between Health Science Departments and internal and external stakeholders, and educational technology
- Implements appropriate processes and procedures concerning issues and trends impacting educational technology
- Completes all operational and liaison responsibilities in a timely and effective manner
- Provides operational relief and assistance (during vacations and approved leaves) for other Heath Science Coordinators, if required and appropriate
EVALUATION AND QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Develops quality assurance procedures to ensure that educational technology operational activities meet intended outcomes.
- Revises strategic plans and outcomes based on quality assurance processes
- Provides evidence-based recommendations on piloted and new learning models, instructional software, and online subscription to match student learning and engagement outcomes
- Tracks and determines strategies to improve student engagement with technology, including data portal, online subscriptions, and other educational technology resources
- Establishes and implements quality assurance mechanisms for learning resources and simulation practices as relates to educational technology
- Represents designated Health Science programs on external stakeholder committees related to educational technology matters as appropriate

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
- Master’s degree required. One degree must be in a health-related discipline. PhD preferred
- A minimum of three years of experience in a professional discipline with knowledge of diverse health care systems and organizations
- A minimum of three years’ instructional experience, preferably in a post-secondary institution, with a clear understanding of the educational experiences of undergraduate students
- Demonstrated functional knowledge of computers, learning technologies, information systems, hardware and software, web-based technology and emerging technologies with an ability to apply principles, concepts, and methodology to support innovative learning
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge in educational technology as pertains to instructional use, including the ability to evaluate educational technology on a cost-benefit basis
- Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively apply relevant educational and administrative policies and collective agreement provisions if required
- Demonstrated ability to assist with knowledge transfer of complex educational technology concepts to enable and empower Health Sciences Faculty to utilize technology for instruction
- Demonstrated ability to plan, operationalize, and evaluate evidence-based best practices relative to educational technology
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience with Douglas College information technology systems and practices as an asset
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and contribute effectively to a professional team and demonstrated excellent conflict management and resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and establish relationships professionally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to apply best practices, including scholarship activities related to educational technology
