Job title: Financial Controller – Construction – Ottawa, ON

Job description: The Financial Controller will be responsible for leading the financial planning process and will assist in developing actions to ensure the organization meets annual operating plans. This position will review and report the financial performance of the organization to the President and Chief Financial Officer.

• Supervising, training and mentoring staff of 2-4 team members
• Production of monthly and annual financial reports for numerous companies
• Journal entries, review of payroll, accounts receivable and all monthly and annual remittances and reporting
• Preparation of monthly and yearly budgets and cashflows
• Insurance & Bonding administration
• Quarterly reporting to bank and bonding company
• Health Plan and Pension Plan financial reporting and financial administration
• Payment approvals, cheque and direct deposit preparation
• Proactively monitor, and ensure effective controls over financial and business risks
• Proactively monitor and improve financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems
• Prepare and assist with annual financial reporting
• Monitor cash reserves and investments including administration and reporting

• A professional accounting designation and 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Proven leader; ability to manage, engage and develop the team
• Ability to set longer terms goals and vision and to translate this into operational activities and short-term plans
• Experience with Maestro, Viewpoint or other construction software is an asset
• Experience in construction and project costing is considered a strong asset
