Job description: Your Opportunity:
A Health Care Aide is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of patient and family centred care on an acute surgical unit under the direction and supervision of a regulated health care professional in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 310 is a 20-bed unit providing care to primary hip, knee & shoulder arthroplasty patients as well as general orthopedic patients. Patients are mostly received from the operating room, but may also come from the emergency department, and directly from medical clinics. We have collaborative care nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides working collaboratively. HCAs are expected to provide direct care as directed by the nurses which will include working to full scope of practice within current hospital policy. HCAs will be involved in mobilizing our patients within hours after their return from surgery as directed by the RNs and LPNs. As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) level and expected to be maintained through your employment. 1-year previous primary arthroplasty experience. Experience with supply monitoring and ordering. Familiarity with caring for bariatric patients with mobility restrictions. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, time management and priority-setting skills. Demonstrated reliability. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills.
