Responsibilities

Please Note: This position will also support Psychiatric Emergency Services & Psychiatric Short Stay Units.

Reporting to the Program Leader, the Health Services Manager is responsible for assuming the day-to-day leadership, supervision and management of all aspects of the team (performance reviews, business planning and budget analysis, evaluation, etc). The successful candidate will work with the mental health co-leadership team (Psychiatry and Management) to facilitate development of service delivery to clients and families through visioning, planning, implementation and evaluation. The role also includes developing and maintaining relationships with other components of the mental health and addictions program; within Central zone, within the community and throughout the province. The HSM will also be involved in initiatives within the Mental Health & Addictions Program to improve service delivery throughout the entire program.

In collaboration with the relevant psychiatric clinical leader, physicians, staff, other partners and stakeholders including patients and family members, the Health Services Manager
will:

  • Work Collaboratively to develop clinically expert multi-discipline teams in their respective program components, and works towards promoting interdisciplinary service provision, individual leadership and overall team functioning
  • With MH&A management team and in collaboration with the Clinical Academic Leaders, develop budgets and human resource plans within the overall budget parameters of the program; and continuously monitor their respective cost centers, ensuring efficacious service delivery
  • Be responsible for ensuring continuous quality improvement throughout their portfolio in clinical service delivery, patient and staff safety, customer satisfaction, staff satisfaction
  • Develop and sustain a positive culture of continual professional development and learning and welcoming learning environment across their portfolio, for staff and students from all disciplines, congruent with NSHA’s role as a world-class academic health sciences centre.
  • Provide staff coaching, mentoring, supervision and direction as required.
  • Participate actively in various mental health & addictions, NSHA, and other committees and work groups in furtherance of the goals of the mental health & addictions program
  • Ensure the physical environment of the clinic functions adequately and co-ordinate all activities required to upgrade or sustain the physical space
  • Provide required on-call services to the program as part of a roster of health service managers
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and peer supervision as available

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree from a health discipline; Masters degree would be considered an asset
  • Must be a member in good standing with the relevant health discipline college/association
  • Minimum three years clinical experience
  • Previous leadership/management experience would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrates high degree of independent decision-making, self-direction, motivation, change management knowledge and team building/leadership skills
  • Proven communication and time management skills
  • Exhibits creative problem-solving ability and willingness to consider uncharted or novel ideas related to trends in health care
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in patient care
  • Effective interpersonal and group management skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Salary Information

Health Services Manager:
$41.1721 – $54.7053 Hourly
