Job title: Human Resources Specialist (Senior HR Advisor Role), Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Region (VCM)

Job description: We are seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join our team for an exciting, new 2-year contract position that has been created in partnership between go2HR and Destination British Columbia to help promote strong and strategic HR practices by providing HR leadership and support for tourism and hospitality employers within the Vancouver Coast & Mountains (VCM) Region.

Reporting directly to the Vice-President, Industry Health, Safety and Human Resources, the HR Specialist is responsible for providing one-to-one HR consultation services, HR audits, and supports to industry employers in the VCM region, in addition to supporting the implementation of the VCM Labour Market Action plan.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide expert, professional advice and resource information to Tourism & Hospitality Employers on a wide range of HR matters including workforce strategy, current HR Trends, recruitment, onboarding, retention, compensation, training, health & safety and employee/labour relations
  • Develop, deliver and support specific regional HR initiatives identified within the VCM Labour Market Action Plan
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with regional employers, employees, educators, businesses, marketing groups, government and other key tourism and hospitality partners
  • Collaborate with the HR team at go2HR, the VCM team at Destination BC, and other program managers in the development and execution of a range of services and activities in the region (e.g. career awareness presentations, recruitment events, training and development initiatives, industry engagement, development of regional articles and social media content, and other initiatives), in person and virtually

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with tourism partners at all levels inside and outside the organization
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resource Management or related discipline, and CPHR designation (or candidate)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience in a business environment, preferably within the tourism/hospitality industry, with at least two years in an HR Leadership role
  • A passion for and a commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of customers as well as colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written): effective listener, create reports, demonstrate ability to lead meetings, develop and deliver effective presentations to key tourism and hospitality partners
  • The ability to take initiative, work well independently as well as collaborate within a strong team environment (including remotely), employing sound judgment, confidentiality and diplomacy
  • Ability to understand and support strategic industry concerns is required, and previous HR/Business consulting experience will be an asset
  • Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of BC provincial and federal employment-related legislation including Health & Safety and employee/labour relations
  • Project management expertise with demonstrated skills in time management, research, planning, coordination, and securing and managing resources to achieve specific goals
  • Innovative recruitment strategies, experience with international worker programs an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom)
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the VCM region as needed (and as COVID-19 restrictions and orders permit)
