Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, International Education, the International Education Officer provides support in the delivery of student international mobility programs and services. Plans, develops and implements processes and policies pertaining to student mobility programs. Responsible for implementing frameworks to diversity and broaden the types of opportunities available to students seeking international experiences. Performs institutional research and analysis to promote data-based decision making throughout the implementation process, and streamlines data collection practices with respect to McGill’s study abroad activities. Enhance the student experience through international education initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities are organized under three broad categories: international student mobility programs, administrative responsibilities and funding opportunities.

International student mobility programs

  • Negotiate student exchange agreements with partner institutions.
  • Provide guidance for the development of new partnerships.
  • Manage the current Student Exchange Agreement (SEA) portfolio including updating information as well as communicating news and updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for creating systematic and timely reevaluation of exchange agreements coming up for renewal.
  • Advises the Faculties on reviewing faculty-specific agreements.
  • Design, develop and implement tools for international education management to ensure smooth operations across the University. Evaluate the overall effectiveness of operational processes in support of student mobility and develop better practices to optimize functions. (E.g. syncing internal processes for students where deadlines may impact funding decisions.)
  • Provide expertise and guidance to the University community on the development of international education agreements, including but not limited to bilateral exchange agreements, summer programs abroad, grants which include a student mobility component, government-sponsored scholarships involving mobility, and faculty-based initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders such as Office of the Provost and Vice-Principal Academic (OPVPA) -International, Internships Office, VP (RIR), Legal Advisor, faculties and units on a number of ad-hoc student agreements.
  • Represent the Office of International Education at the McGill International Education Network.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement procedures, controls and record keeping systems for the unit.
  • Provide well-reasoned and informed briefings on a range of issues and opportunities.
  • Resolve situations and respond the McGill Abroad emails.
  • Plan large meetings, conferences and special events, including logistics, invitations, catering and all necessary equipment and material.
  • Record detailed minutes at meetings, make decisions and ensure follow-up and implementation of agreed decisions.

Funding Opportunities:

  • Oversee specific student mobility programs within externally funded programs, including implementation, reporting, financial monitoring, and liaising with both external and internal stakeholders.

Liaise with a number of external organizations and agencies

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Comprehensive understanding of University systems and trends in post-secondary education in Canada and Internationally. Strong communication skills including writing skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet multiple concurrent deadlines. Proven ability to perform high quality research and data analysis. Strong proficiency with data management software tools. French and English (written and spoken). Knowledge of WMS, MS Office Suite.

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary: (MPEX Grade 04) $58,470.00 – $73,090.00 – $87,710.00
