Job title: IT Technician

Job description: Reporting to the Site IT Supervisor, the IT Technician is part of the Hope Bay IT department and is responsible for supporting Cisco networks and routers, Windows domain maintenance and the management of the satellite, network and radio communications at the mine site.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for all users at mine site.
  • Maintain all site satellite, network and radio communications at mine site.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for all users at mine site.
  • Administer site database to track software and hardware installs to ensure licensing compliance.
  • Manage site phone and voicemail PBX system.
  • Administer Cisco switches/routers with ability to create and manage VLAN’s.
  • Assist in the continuity of projects with other site departments and corporate office.
  • Pull and terminate RJ45 network cabling in offices and Production Plant.
  • Maintenance of all site printers, copiers and other peripheral devices.
  • Responsible for maintaining consumable inventory and new product research.
  • Manage, monitor, and test routine system backups and restores.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Camp television system.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output devices, and workstations.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of all systems, applications, security, and desktop areas.
  • Work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to follow Information Technology General Controls and Best Practices.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as servers, computers, and peripherals.
  • Conduct all work safely and follow all mine safety procedures.
  • Will be required to climb ladders and work at height for long periods of time.
  • The position requires working outside for long periods of time in adverse working conditions.
  • Will be required to go underground on occasions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of providing advanced technical support of workstations and server environments.
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience of Windows Operating
  • Systems including; Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012 and 2019.
  • Advanced knowledge of VMware.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server AD, DHCP, DNS.
  • Experienced with Office 365 Management.
  • Good working knowledge of network switching, routing and vLANs (Cisco preferred).
  • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with backup/recovery solutions, operations, and disaster recovery testing.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure and time sensitive operations environment.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal outside support and supervision.
  • Cisco CCNA, CCENT and Microsoft MCSE are an asset.
  • Fiber optic splicing experience is an asset.
  • May be required to work while wearing a respirator from time to time.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;
  • Remote mine and/or Arctic experience is an asset.
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on a Speexx English language assessment.

Your Work Schedule

  • Schedule: 21 days of work, followed by 21 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from Hope Bay, Nunavut.
