Roles and responsibilities of our Urban Beekeepers:

Reporting to the Beekeeping Team Manager, the Lead Urban Beekeeper oversees beekeeping operations for their city.

This is a full-time, permanent position in accordance with Alvéole’s current policies.

  • Oversee the finding, organizing, and maintenance of the city’s bee yards.
  • Manage hive splits and the creation of new hives, including queen pick-ups, queen banks, queen-rearing, planning brood drops, and record-keeping.
  • Implement systems to ensure that hives or brood are continually available in order to boost client hives throughout the season, that ready-to-deliver hives are always clearly marked, and that all bee-related logistics are easily coordinated with the beekeeping team (including hive moving, delivery, removal).
  • Update Beekeeping Training Day Notes (according to city specificities)
  • Lead all beekeeper training days with the Beekeeping Team Manager (BTM).
  • Directly train and coach beekeepers (Beekeeper Training Days, at client sites)
  • Take calls/texts from beekeepers with questions related to their hives throughout the day and advise them on how to best address any issues.
  • Proactively seek information about client hives and coordinate with the beekeeper who manages them to ensure that they are on target.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of IPM strategies for your city and team.
  • Consult and coordinate with BTM and Collaborate with Beekeeping Field Specialist on goals for the season and cycle and any planned revisions.
  • Responsible for registering hives for district/city
  • Responsible for managing the # of queens, hives, equipment for city
  • Responsible for setting and achieving hive targets for city
  • Organize, clean, and maintain equipment, supplies, and warehouse space throughout the season.
  • Build relationships with businesses, schools, and other organizations through in-person and online communication tools.

As needed:

  • Manage a small number of client accounts and be their main point of contact throughout the season for onboarding, communications, coordination, and contract renewals
  • Manage all of your clients’ beehives, including rooftop installation of new hives, swarm prevention, routine maintenance, pest and parasite control, and educational workshops.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to provide quality service, practices, and client experience.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Commitment to learning the principles of beekeeping through company training and personal initiative
  • Public speaking experience
  • Comfortable with the reality of beekeeping hazards (stings, heavy lifting) ● Comfortable working at heights
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and autonomous working skills
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Good communication skills
