Responsibilities
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards of practice and guidelines, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing specific assigned nursing procedures and care activities and rehabilitative services to address the needs of individuals with a variety of medical, developmental, behavioural, psychiatric and other issues.
The LPN works in collaboration with the individual and or family and the interdisciplinary team to assist the individual/family to develop skills, access support for, and address, health and social needs. The LPN provides consistent and ongoing support, adjusted to meet the changing needs of the individual.
The LPN practices in accordance with standards set by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia. He or she adheres to the principles of Recovery-oriented Approach, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, and the policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. The LPN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The LPN is responsible and accountable for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Diploma Program for Licensed Practical Nurses
- Current registration with or eligible for registration through Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
- Three years of experience in adult mental health prefered
- Experience in behavioural management required (e.g. NVCI/ CPI)
- Previous care coordination experience preferred
- Experience in physical health and chronic disease management is an asset
- Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and mental health practices
- BCLS Certification
- Current pharmacology/medication administration certification as required by scope of employment
- Knowledge of nursing standards/protocols and scope of practice as related to job assignment and according to the CLPNNS and the Licensed Practical Nurses Act
- Communicate in a culturally sensitive, non-judgmental, empathetic manner to establish therapeutic relationships with individuals and/or families.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal, clinical and assessment skills
- Ability to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to patient/client planning processes
- Ability to be flexible and balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities
- Possesses keen observation skills, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail
- Demonstrates an aptitude and desire to provide person and family centred care
- Valid NS Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work
Long Assignment, Full Time (100%) Position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information
$28.1370 – $30.2190 Hourly
