Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Logistics, this position is responsible for the coordination of and workflow practices within the Logistics Department including supervising staff, overseeing the sanitizing and processing of medical equipment, supplies and vehicles, asset and inventory management, improving logistical processes to maximize resource availability and ensure workplace health and safety and quality assurance in accordance with in accordance with applicable legislation and BCAS policies and procedures.

What you’ll do

  • Supervises designated staff including: work assignments, orientation and training requirements, ensuring safety and security of the immediate work area, establishing individual and team goals, ongoing monitoring and evaluating performance, reviewing work, travel expense/allowance approval, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures, facilitating resolutions to problems, and referring unresolved issues to the Manager.
  • Ensures operational needs of the Logistics department are met by scheduling staff including maintaining and approving timekeeping/payroll records in accordance within the establish budget and BCEHS policies/procedures and collective agreement requirements.
  • Ensures all safeguards are taken for the safety of all areas of the organization, ensuring procedure is followed and PPE is used during high level decontaminations, such as HIV, Hepatitis, or Norwalk.
  • Ensures efficiencies are utilized to maximize availability of the fleet and medical equipment to the organization for proper deployment, maintenance, sanitizing, decontamination and stocking on behalf of the Logistics Department.
  • Coordinates the availability and delivery of vehicles and/or equipment for public relations presentations, driver training, emergency, service centers and other operational purposes. Coordinates the movement of the fleet to and from the service centres and for operational purposes and, on occasion, directly to incidents.
  • Orders pre-hospital supplies using an established inventory system and ordering process. Receives stock and investigates/reviews deficient orders. Maintains stock rotation and stockroom storage to ensure inventory for operational needs. Review, evaluate and make recommendations for new items for stocking and use in pre-hospital care.
  • Monitors inventory and expenditure of supplies including data input of inventory on hand/stock re-orders into computerized system(s).
  • Following process and procedures; reviews, investigates and forwards all vehicle and equipment checks and reports to the appropriate area as required.
  • Oversees preventative maintenance on various medical equipment in accordance with defined standards, policy and procedure.
  • Carries out audits/reviews of completed vehicle and equipment checks and sanitizing/decontamination activities. Ensure that quantities are replenished, stocked and accounted for following policies and procedures, and to ensure that routing and deep cleaning activities comply with protocols, standards and policies.
  • Using established processes, responds to and investigates various requests/inquiries/complaints, including analyzing data and conducting interviews. May be required to report findings and make recommendations such as implementing equipment and process changes within his/her area of responsibility.
  • Provides logistics and asset management software systems administration including quality assurance and coordinating software and/or hardware maintenance of the asset management system and monitor for potential problems, establish history library, and develop/implement contingency plans.
  • Prepares a variety of comprehensive reports as well as collects/compiles research data, for a variety of stakeholders/leaders/departments for the coordination of services provided by the Logistics Department. Recommends improvement opportunities to the system and ensures compliance/ participates in quality assurance programs.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, scheduled for overnight travel. May also be required to fill EST shifts if required due to workload or unscheduled absences.
  • Must have the physical ability to perform all functions required to clean, sanitize and stock ambulances and other BCAS vehicles including lifting 40kg.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus three years’ recent, related experience including one year in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license where applicable.

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
  • Mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to attain and maintain approved PPE certification, including but not limited to N95 & PC4 certification.

  • Knowledge of Incident Command or Incident Management Practices
