Located in Barrie and under the general direction of the Director, Continuing Education and Corporate Training, the incumbent is responsible for the business development, delivery and administration of a broad mix of continuing education and corporate training courses across all Georgian College campuses. These programs are developed, planned and delivered to serve the needs of the College, the local and regional communities, as well as meeting the College’s financial targets. The Manager works with the Director to establish the objectives, set parameters for approvals and monitor departmental budgets. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Working in consultation with the Director and other program staff, the incumbent is responsible for business development of various workforce development and part-time non-credit initiatives which includes conducting environmental scans, identifying and developing opportunities, and working with appropriate community, association and industry representatives and stakeholders
- Working with the Director to monitor the progress of such plans, including adjusting where required and reporting on progress
- Working with Director and stakeholders to package courses and develop programs to meet the workforce development needs of clients. This includes professional association training programs, corporate training and part-time non-funded courses
- Facilitating curriculum development and program proposals; developing business cases, proposals and RFP’s; negotiating contracts; determining delivery location and method (i.e. on-line, in person); forecasting student numbers and budget issues; and evaluating programs
- Coordinating equipment and / or facility needs for training initiatives and providing guidance on the delivery of programs that may be offered at more than one site
- Achieving or exceeding sales targets for sale of the college’s learning services and manages expenses to achieve contribution goals
- Researching, developing and maintaining business relationships with client groups
- Participating, and making presentations when required, in community initiatives, events, networking functions, committees, boards, and other organizations to support the community, promote / sell the diverse learning services, and represent Georgian College
- Providing consultative advice and project management services to organizations, determining short and long-term improvements / cost savings by using college learning services
- Identifying, negotiating and hiring of individuals to deliver training
- Developing outreach strategies/ plans to inform industry and help maintain links with clients to advise availability and use of college learning services across all campuses
- Working with the marketing department to develop/implement effective sales and marketing strategies; ensuring that training contracts are prepared that reflect the client’s needs and contributes toward creating positive long-term client relationships
- Recruiting, hiring, orienting, coaching and evaluating, scheduling and assigning work to direct reports following HR policies/procedures. In addition, initiating problem solving for disputes involving faculty, trainers and staff
- Overseeing policy and procedure implementation through appropriate supervision of faculty and staff.
- Advising students and potential customers on the details of programs and courses. The incumbent has initial responsibility for resolving students’ issues such as complaints, appeals, performance etc.
- Providing information to clients and prospective clients regarding a number of different issues associated with registration and submission requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successfully completed a three-year diploma / degree in a relevant field of study including, but not limited to; adult education and business management
- Five years of experience in a role, preferably within an educational institution, that included business development, delivery and administration of training programs as well as working with government agencies
- Solid understanding of adult education principles along with program / course planning and curriculum development skills
- Leadership and budgeting skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively manage both human and financial resources
- Proven ability to develop and implement sales / marketing strategies to ensure the sale of college learning services to industry and government organizations
- Demonstrated experience in consulting / relationship management to build / cultivate relationships
- Excellent written communication skills with the proven ability to write proposals, business plans and reports
- Strong interpersonal, oral communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Project management, planning and organizational skills
