Child & Adolescent Mental Health at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital offers an array of tertiary-level services to families coping with mental health issues of children and adolescents. Psychiatric assessment and rehabilitation treatment services are provided for children and adolescents who have general and complex psychiatric and behaviour disorders. Reporting to the Unit Manager or designate, the Mental Health Aide assists in the provision of direct patient care to meet patients hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs in accordance with patient care plans, and hospital policies and procedures. The Mental Health Aide also assists in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, families, staff and visitors. The Mental Health Aide should demonstrate: Strong verbal communication skills that support verbal messages being received and understood. Active listening skills and congruent non-verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain relationships built on mutual respect, appropriate sensitivity and transparency, empathy, and compassion with patients, families, colleagues, professional and medical staff. Ability to manage emotions and strong feelings, maintain a calm and tactful composure under a broad range of challenging circumstances, and to think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Ability to work cooperatively and productively with others. Ability to enhance, support, empower and otherwise increase patient engagement in treatment and change. Please Note: FTE is based on the Edmonton Public School calendar – the employee works full time during the school calendar year and is off during Christmas, Spring and Summer breaks.
Description:
As a Mental Health Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team to provide a welcoming and safe care environment. You will assist in the provision of direct patient/client care as delegated in a person-centered, recovery oriented and safe manner. In this position, you will assist and / or promote independence to patients/clients in completing activities of daily living as well as assisting other health professionals with providing treatments and observing and reporting relevant patient/client information to professional staff. You will assist new patients/clients and families with orientation, and assist in the general support of the work area.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12. Completion of Health Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications:
Mental Health First Aide required. English language proficiency required. Preferred Qualifications:
P.C.A or M.A.A certification or equivalent. Hospital experience working in mental health (minimum 2 years). Experience in working with child and adolescent mental health patients preferred.
