Job description: Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Program Manager or designate, this position functions as an afterhours on-call service within facility to provide early intervention mental health services (e.g. crisis intervention, brief counselling, education) to adults and children and to facilitate access to other appropriate services as required. The incumbent will act as a consultant/educator to other health care service providers. A primary function of this position is to provide services in a flexible and responsive manner in order to meet client needs and foster the shared care approach to mental health services. Team members will provide crisis intervention services to the emergency department of Drayton Valley General Hospital & will conduct necessary assessments, as well as obtain relevant client data to determine appropriate intervention (i.e. referrals to appropriate services and/or direct service to clients such as crisis intervention, brief counseling and education). The assessment and follow-up recommendations will be communicated to the Physician and client at that time. Crisis Intervention, assessment and documentation skills are critical to this role.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: master’s degree in Psychology; master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; master’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; master’s degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.
