*This is a sessional position from July 2022 – July 2023*

Responsibilities:

  • Contacts the relevant schools and community agencies to determine interest in attending the program at the University of Winnipeg.
  • Arranging for transportation of participants to and from the University.
  • Contacting and confirming current community sponsors of the event.
  • Arranging to have sponsor gifts delivered and distributed to the students.
  • Confirm food arrangements for each week with Diversity foods and arrange for pick-up and delivery.
  • Purchasing food supplies not provided by Diversity Food Service.
  • Coordinate any supportive needs.
  • Ensure that programmers for each session are on time to set up and offer the program.
  • Be prepared to step in to help in the event of sickness or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Orientation for new programmers and/or volunteers.
  • Monitors facilities to ensure the safety of all users. Takes appropriate action to eliminate risks or communicate risks to appropriate staff.
  • Coordinate participant availability and accessibility for faculty members wishing to conduct approved research as part of the program.
  • Coordinating with faculty members to have students present in the program as part of their course requirements or on a voluntary basis.
  • Ensure that accurate records of attendance and incidence reports are maintained.
  • Submit a final report at the end of the program.
  • Contribute to and oversee content of programming.
  • Promote program on social media, local media and UW Communications Department.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Kinesiology, Nutrition or a related field preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian Preferred.
  • Knowledge of Diabetes and the value of exercise and diet on the prevention and treatment of the disease.
  • Experience with community-based nutrition Education programs and best practices.
  • At least one year of previous experience with sport or recreation camps.
  • Experience in a coordinating role managing a program.
  • Able to independently coordinate instructors, participants, food services and sponsors throughout the implementation of the program.
  • Good communication and motivational skills.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person.
