About Our Opportunity

The Provincial Science Consultant is responsible for providing sound and expert advice on all aspects of science curricula, inclusive of Etuaptmunk, and its development from primary to grade 12. The Provincial Science Consultant carries out the responsibility of developing, implementing, and evaluating science curricula programs and courses for the public school system to support the inclusive education policy and MTSS implementation. The provincial science consultant will work with key collaborative groups such as teacher work groups, universities, colleges, other departments and agencies, professional associations and organizations, and advocacy groups to assist in informing the development of science curricula for culturally and linguistically responsive and inclusive learning environments.

The Provincial Science Consultant reports directly to the Director of Curriculum Development.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Administer various aspects of Public-School Programs, P- 12 redevelopment (i.e., science curricula for each grade level and development/procurement of learning resources, etc.) working in collaboration with French first-language and French second-language programs and curricula.
  • The Provincial Science Consultant is required to implement Public School Programs, P-12 through developing, directing, and conducting professional learning and implementation sessions primarily with teams and partners.
  • Perform administrative duties and required procedures e.g. research, correspondence, reports
  • Provide consultative services, networking, and professional development

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you have a Bachelors’ Degree with a Major in Science or a related discipline, a Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent Teacher Certification plus 8 years of experience and a Master of Education degree.

You will also have extensive knowledge of Nova Scotia science curricula and its implementation in Nova Scotia, and the skill and ability in the use of technology to support science learning, including Moodle and GSuite. You must have strong decision-making skills and excellent presentation and communication skills (both verbal and written). You must have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented with the ability to multitask. You must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with groups and individuals with diverse or competing interests or perspectives. You will have highly developed research skills to be able to conduct in-depth literature scans and original research related to the design of modern science curricula.

Experience in an educational leadership role in regional and/or national science communities would be an asset. A background in environmental and outdoor education is also an asset for this position.

Pay Grade: PR 20

Salary Range: $3,387.99 – $3,989.08 Bi-Weekly
