Job description: Your Opportunity:

We are seeking a Registered Nurse with exceptional clinical and critical thinking skills and the adaptability and enthusiasm to excel in our Acute Surgical Unit. Registered Nurses in this area are responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care following the RAH and AHS policies and procedures. We implement CoAct with Care Hub nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aids working collaboratively to their full scope of practice. This Registered Nurse position will require you to perform moderate to heavy work regularly to ensure safe patient care and the safety of unit staff. All staff are required to assist with the mobilization of patients with a variety of ambulation needs and disabilities. You will be expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aids and support your LPN peers as well as take on the responsibility of charge nurse as required. In the Patient Care Unit (PCU) 24 at the RAH, you will find a supportive and cohesive team that will allow you to challenge yourself professionally with the opportunity to further develop your nursing experience. Unit orientation will be established based on experience. PCU 24 is a 28-bed unit providing care to general surgery patients including Plastics, General Surgery, Bariatric and Oral Maxillary Facial patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour – $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management – Chapters 1 – 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks. Two years of recent experience in post-operative care including General Surgery, OMF, and/or Plastics patients. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority-setting skills. Demonstrated reliability. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills. MUST HAVE previous recent OMF experience, charge nurse experience, and plastics experience. Preferred Qualifications:

IV, PCA, epidural, Central Line and TPN experience.
