Job title: Registered Nurse – Oncology
Job description: The Oncology Unit (C3) is an active inpatient oncology facility providing a continuum of care for adults with solid tumor malignancies. C3 is committed to investing in our nurses’ professional growth and development with the goal of developing a community of specialized oncology nurses who will seamlessly provide care to our patients along the cancer continuum. Nurses will be offered a standardized orientation to enhance building a foundation of oncology knowledge as well as create confidence to care for patients with cancer. Nurses are also supported to achieve relevant, specialized nursing training and skills such as vascular access, chemotherapy certification, oncology nursing, and palliative care certification.
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and community agencies, the RN provides compassionate and dedicated quality care for patients and their families. In accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards, the CANO Practice Standards and Competencies for the Specialized Oncology Nurse and HHS’ mission, vision, values and policies, the RN improves the health of our patients through their evidence-based clinical practice and leadership in healthcare delivery.
Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Current successful completion of the de Souza Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate equivalent course required
- Advanced oncology-nursing credentials such as Certified Oncology Nurse (CON(C), McMaster University Oncology Nursing Certificate, Mohawk College Oncology Certificate or equivalent from and accredited educational institution preferred
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated ability to support patients and families of patients who are terminally ill
- Preferred recent (within the last 2 years) experience in the care of oncology patients
and in antineoplastic drug administration
