Responsibilities

Reporting to the District Manager Perioperative Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room works to full scope of practice as an independent practitioner within an inter-professional and collaborative team, providing holistic (addressing bio, psycho, social, cultural and spiritual needs), and comprehensive care for individuals, families, groups, populations and communities across the continuum of care. The RN provides leadership and applies advanced nursing knowledge within specific practice settings, and in-depth nursing knowledge, skills and judgment in providing care to all individuals (includes families, groups, populations and communities).

The RN ensures that the principles and practices that guide NSHA such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and inter-professional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor degree in Nursing preferred
  • Currently registered, and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) or eligible for registration
  • Clinical experience in an operating room setting with extensive surgical procedures (orthopedic, general surgery, vascular, thoracic, gynaecological surgeries): Either one (1) year within the last five (5) or two (2) years continuous service within the last ten (10) years.
  • If the above is not available, an R.N. with completion of or enrolled in a recognized Perioperative Nursing Program with evidence of ongoing education and the demonstrated ability to learn in a fast-paced, technically focused environment in order to learn detailed technical aspects of Operating Room procedures.
  • If the above is not available, an R.N. with evidence of ongoing education and the demonstrated ability to learn in a fast-paced, technically focused environment in order to learn detailed technical aspects of Operating Room procedures. Willingness to participate in a training program for the Operating Room/Recovery Room.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification

Salary Information

$35.21 – $41.48 hourly
$42.94 with 25 years’ experience
