Job description: Your Opportunity:

A Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care in an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 22 is a fast-paced 20-bed inpatient surgical unit providing care to ophthalmology, otolaryngology, urology, orthopedic and general surgery inpatients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, outpatient areas, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics. We have collaborative nursing care on all shifts, with Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses working cohesively within the collaborative model of care. Unit orientation will be established based on experience. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line, supporting and maintaining high-quality patient care strategies within the Surgery program. RNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided and support their LPN peers. RNs are expected to take on the responsibility of charge nurses as required. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour – $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Administration Certificate (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:

Previous experience with Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology surgical patients. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills. Candidates are required to write a medication calculation exam during the interview. Failure to achieve a passing mark on the exam may impact the decision to hire. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills. The position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work (greater than 50 lbs.) on a regular basis in an RN/LPN/HCA capacity in order to ensure safe patient care and the safety of unit staff. This job is physically demanding. The incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients, as well as other physical tasks. Two years of recent surgical experience and charge nurse experience is preferred.
