Reporting to the Manager of Adult Outpatient Mental Health Program, the successful candidate will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team to provide support to our medication clinics. Collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, the RPN will work independently to facilitate intake to the medication clinic and support the delivery and monitoring of mental health medication. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. The RPN will participate in program planning, patient consultations with primary care, psychiatry and other patient supports.
Requirements:
- Current certification as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with CNO
- Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level
- Completion of Crisis prevention course from a recognized program preferred
- Experience in acute-care outpatient mental health
- Demonstrate knowledge and competency of venipuncture techniques
- Demonstrate knowledge and competency in administering and monitoring long acting antipsychotic medication
- Have the knowledge and skill in conducting mental status assessment
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, PHIPA and other provincial and federal legislations.
- Evidence of sound organizational, prioritization and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, staff and the community.
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues and volunteers and other members of the community and public
- Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
- Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record
