What does the IT Systems Administrator do?
Working remotely, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and servers. This role works with hardware and software and participates in research and development to continuously improve and keep up with the IT business needs of the organization. The System Administrator also actively resolves problems and issues with computer and server systems to limit work disruptions within the company.

- Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and network servers
- Installing and upgrading computer components and software, managing physical and virtual servers
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing the impact of issues
- Perform server administration tasks (ex: user/group, security permissions, group policies, print services); research event-log warnings and errors; and monitor resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly
- Monitor data-center health using existing management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers when needed
- Maintain internal infrastructure requirements, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, and security updates; support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, VPNs, and network segments
- Assist the help desk and other teams with troubleshooting to identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed
- Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups
- Experience administering systems in an enterprise network environment, requiring knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and other network services and protocols
- Ensuring security and efficiency of IT infrastructure
- Ensuring the integrity of data storage and backup systems
- Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
- Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues
- Work with vendors in maintaining the internet connection and firewall and monitoring security tools
- Responding immediately to security or usability concerns
- Anticipating potential problems and taking action to solve them before they impact users when possible
- Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
- Testing software
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
- Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
What you need:
- 3-year college diploma or university degree in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of database, network administration, or system administration experience
- Experience/knowledge in:
- Microsoft Windows Server management
- Networking & Firewall management
- Group Policy Architecture and management
- Basic VMWare management
- Basic SAN management
- Basic Linux OS knowledge (considered an asset)
- Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Experience with scripting and automation tools
- A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies and plans
- Experience of implementing IT SIEM, PAM, OS Imaging & BCP projects an asset.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
