Job description: The Allied Health Services (AHS) team, under Professional Practice consists of Regulated Healthcare Professional including: Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Social Work, Registered Dietitians, as well as unregulated Rehabilitation Assistants. Each discipline is focused on driving evidence informed practice to promote high quality patient and family centered care.

The team has a professional practice leader (PPL) model for each regulated allied health discipline which promotes and enhances the interprofessional team. Each regulated discipline has their own PPL with dedicated time to enhance their communities of practice, represent their respective disciplines at committees, create policies & procedures, lead corporate level initiatives and drive best practices in the realm of patient care.

We are currently recruiting for a Casual clinic focused – Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to support our ambulatory service (adult and pediatric asthma and pulmonary function) clinics.

Education and Experience:

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario – required
  • Current BCLS – required
  • Previous experience in pulmonary function testing – required
  • Previous experience in asthma clinic (pediatric &/or adult) – preferred
  • Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) or Certified Asthma Educator (CAE) – required
  • Previous experience in research studies an asset
  • Certification in smoking cessation counselling (example: TEACH) – preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Providing focused education and disease management recommendations to patients, families, staff and providers as it pertains to the management of chronic respiratory diseases including but not limited to COPD and asthma. Education and recommendations will include topics such as appropriate use of medication, symptom identification, self management strategies, disease progression, and potential referrals to external providers
  • Smoking cessation counselling
  • Administration of aerosolized medication and/or Meter Dose Inhaler (MDI)
  • Completing home oxygen assessments
  • Pulmonary function testing including: body plethysmography, spirometry, lung diffusion, methacholine challenge testing, MIP/MEP
  • Performing 6 minute walk tests
  • Arterial punctures and blood gas analysis
  • FeNO testing
  • Familiarity with current CTS guidelines for the diagnosis and management of asthma
  • Familiarity with current CTS and GOLD guidelines for the diagnosis and management of COPD
