Since November 2017, under new Ownership, Water Street Cafe has launched many exciting promotions including Happy Hour, Winemakers’ Dinners, 40% off Wine Mondays and the most recent, Live Music on the 2nd Floor.
Water Street Cafe is located in Gastown, right across from the world famous Steam Clock and surrounded by cobblestone streets. Our historic building, the Edward Hotel, was first constructed in 1906 and it is truly a special and unique establishment.
We are looking for leaders who are passionate about people and experts in providing the Perfect Guest Experience. We are currently looking for an Assistant General Manager and coworker with high wine and cocktail knowledge, a passion for food and a desire for high level guest service. We are a company facing growth and therefore future opportunities for the right candidate.
The day to day of this role involves coworker mentoring and coaching, running an efficient and successful service and maintaining cost control procedures while developing regulars and hosting the floor. Other responsibilities will include ordering and inventory, hosting wine training sessions, invoicing, scheduling and training.
Job Requirements/Responsibilities

- Oversee and develop multiple hourly personnel of varying positions
- Help with onboarding and training of new team members
- Controlling inventory and overseeing ordering procedures
- Ensuring cost control procedures are adhered to
- Closing/Opening procedures
- Creating marketing and sales initiatives
- Hosting and directing wine training for team members
This is a full-time position that requires open availability, including days, evenings, holidays.
Qualifications
3-5 years comparable experience that features progressive career growth
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Organized
- Strong leadership skills
- WSET 1-2 level education
- Strong entrepreneurial instinct
- Self starter
- Diligent multi tasker
- Education or training in management would be an asset
- Passion for high level guest service with a focus on finer dining
- Experience in team development
- Direct senior management of an operation with 2-3 million in sales

Assets but not requirements:
