Project Overview

Bechtel has been appointed as the Delivery Partner, supporting our customer Metrolinx as part of an integrated team, to help deliver the signature Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project, a transformational transit project for the Greater Toronto Area. The multi-billion dollar project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment. The Senior Construction Planner will be responsible for reviewing the Ontario Line Program of schedules identifying areas of the schedule that have significant contractor/third party interfaces and therefore risk areas. Working with experienced construction and testing personnel, the senior construction planners will present the program leadership team with the optimal program options to protect against schedule erosion.

Position Summary

This position reports functionally to the Ontario Line Delivery Partner Planning Manager and supports the What-If Team Project Director and constructability team on a day to day basis.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and assess the program schedule, identifying potential risks and pinchpoints resulting from contractor and third-party interfaces.
  • Bring fresh perspectives and creative thinking to challenge conventional approaches and develop innovative solutions to derisk critical areas.
  • Present your findings and recommendations to senior leadership, driving implementation of optimal program options to protect against schedule erosion.
  • Continuously monitor the program schedule, identifying new areas of concern and conducting ‘what if’ planning analysis for the entire Ontario Line Program.
  • Collaborate with safety and construction teams to develop action plans and mitigation strategies for schedule risks and gaps.
  • Engage in senior management discussions, effectively communicating complex topics using standard project management tools.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of the Schedule Impact Report, including the development and review of schedule recovery plans with resource evaluation.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields, and 15 plus years of experience. In Lieu of degree relevant project controls experience with an emphasis on project planning in the Engineering and Construction industry. Should have experience as a planner on the prime contractor side of the business.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and prior experience in rail projects are highly preferred.
  • Expert analytical and computer skills required.
  • Preference given to experience managing heavy civil and rail projects
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment, based in the office five days a week
  • Experience required includes planning for construction through urban locations, with a focus on rail projects
  • In depth knowledge of vertical station construction, bridge construction, elevated guideways, tunneling both with tunnel boring machines and SEM methods, utility relocations, track upgrades, storage yards, maintenance facilities and rail systems experience is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Expertise in project planning, including proficiency in standard planning software such as P6, Microsoft Project, Tilos, Milestones Professional, and Acuman Fuse.
  • Proven experience in planning and scheduling functions, including schedule development, control, and analysis, both in the field and home office settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of the rail sector, encompassing engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and testing and commissioning work processes.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, with a demonstrated ability to present planning and scheduling information to management and clients.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
