Responsibilities

The Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU) supports the conduct and implementation of patient-oriented research addressing Maritime health priorities. The Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU) is a team of multidisciplinary researchers and facilitators specialized in research methods, policy development and patient engagement. The MSSU provides expertise and support to patient oriented research in the Maritime Provinces and assists with decision making in healthcare service planning.

The successful candidate will conduct and support high quality patient-oriented research to improve implementation of research evidence in Nova Scotia. Reporting to the MSSU Director and in collaboration with other MSSU employeess, the MSSU Senior Health Policy Researcher is responsible to lead and support research teams addressing health system priorities. This includes planning, design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of health policy research and quality improvement studies within the Maritime health system.
This includes providing leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of health policy research and quality improvement studies within the Maritime health care system.

In addition, the MSSU Senior Health Policy Researcher advises external researchers, clinicians, policy makers, and other MSSU team members on research protocol design and conduct, facilitates collaborations with local researchers, healthcare providers and health system decision makers, and students, builds local capacity for high quality patient oriented research, and contributes to building an evidence informed decision making culture.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in health services research, health economics, social sciences, law, or public administration
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered
  • A minimum of 5 (five) years of demonstrated research activity and proficiency in health policy research
  • Proficient with statistical software (eg: SAS, STATA, R, or equivalent)
  • Experience in quantitative analysis
  • Familiarity with the health policy context of the Maritime provinces generally and Nova Scotia in particular
  • Skilled and passionate about conducting research that supports evidence informed health system decision making
  • Possesses a high degree of creativity and initiative
  • Interacts with others in a professional manner both within and external to the Unit
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven record of setting and meeting goals within a deadline driven work environment
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, teaching and presentation skills
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Experience managing multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Long assignment, full-time position, 75 hours bi-weekly
Beginning September 27, 2021 with an expected end date of June 24, 2022 (Approximately 9 months)

Salary Information

$44.5089/hour – $55.6359/hour
