Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of Insurance Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
The role is critical in capturing the full potential for Insurance Sales through the Non-Creditor Businesses (Life, Home and Auto, Accidental Death, Critical Illness), alternative distribution channels (Home Financing Solutions, Scotia Mortgage Authority, and third-party mortgage brokers), Contact Centre’s and Branch Channels.
Accountabilities
- As the Senior Manager, Education and Learning Strategy, you will be responsible for the development and execution of education and learning strategies, plans and initiatives in Insurance Canada, ensuring alignment with business and bank learning strategy. You will engage with our key partners and design solutions that incorporate the end-to-end learning cycle (assessment, design, evaluation and sustainment) ensuring measurement against key business and performance metrics. This role works closely with Insurance Canada leadership to identify and implement solutions that meet the education and learning needs of the business across all its distribution network.
- Strategy Development- Develop and execute training and coaching strategies, new tools and resources to support the business unit operate more efficiently and effectively to meet their sales targets. Must be able to balance ever increasing change and will work on continuously improving the operational effectiveness and performance of all front-line distribution channels; with a heavy focus on Direct to Consumer Business ((Home and Auto; Life and Health; Travel)
- Designs and implements blended learning and performance tools using a variety of modalities and technologies (i.e. eLearning, Instructor-led Training, Virtual Instructor-led Training, Social Learning, Informal, Mobile Learning, instructional video, quiz, tip sheet, activity, competency check list, webinar and presentation)
- Works in collaboration with all distribution channels to develop and successfully deploy effective learning, educational content and programs that build and sustain knowledge and skills of distribution channel: Branch, Indirect, Contact Centres (incl. third party), Digital: SOL, Mobile – customer facing + support related
- Proactively identify educational, learning, performance and knowledge gaps impacting performance to provide innovative learning solutions that support and improve customer and employee awareness and experience.
- Responsible for creating an annual learning strategy and strategies/tactics for specific educational and learning programs to address specific business needs, and ensures all content is consistent with the Bank’s Global Sales Principles, meets sales practices, regulatory and market guidelines.
- Proactively utilizes a wide range of data to identify themes/trends and recommend effective learning strategies and tactics to meet the business needs
- Maintains new and ongoing relationships with external vendors and networks to ensure currency and relevancy of training industry trends and best practices, leverages knowledge to implement solutions to improve/enhance strategies, programs and processes.
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information
- Post-secondary degree, preferably in Adult Education, Training, Human Resources or equivalent. Certified Training and Development Professional designation an asset.
- Significant or relevant experience in developing and executing learning strategies and solutions in a corporate environment
- Strong communications skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal effectively with different levels of the organization (VP and below).
- Strong ability to strategically influence and persuade leaders. Strong ability to effectively perform in a complex, high change environment while being a positive steward for Scotia Life Financial/ Insurance Canada
- Thorough understanding of insurance and financial planning concepts, sales and marketing
- Strong problem solving, conflict management, negotiation skills
- Results oriented and able to effectively execute in a fast paced environment
- Understanding of Bank’s business strategy and how Learning can support them
- Ability to translate strategy into actionable plans and results
- Strong project management skills and effective execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of learning initiatives and programs
- Superior prioritization and time management skills
- Excellent knowledge of the bank’s retail network sales and services processes and systems
- Understands how the data relates to actions and results for an individual person or team
- French language skills are an asset
