Reporting to the Director of Construction the Sr. Project Manager, Construction will be responsible for planning, directing, managing and providing oversight of their assigned new development and renovation projects to ensure that Recipe’s goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed schedule, quality and budget parameters. The ideal candidate will provide internal and external coordination and collaboration with project partners and stakeholders, while assisting in the management of key initiatives and projects.

What you will do in this role:

  • Coordinate ground up and interior fit-up construction, major renovations, and conversion projects for Recipe branded restaurant concepts
  • Manage all external parties involved in the project including general contractors, consultants, vendors, and suppliers
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget, while maintaining proper invoice and cost tracking throughout the life cycle of the project
  • Ensure engineering, architectural, and design activities are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Develop an effective construction schedule and accurate budget for each construction project
  • Manage building permits and site approval processes, while coordinating with the Landlord on delivery of base building and/or building pad
  • Manage the tendering process, analysis and recommendation of projects
  • Coordinate equipment delivery and construction schedules
  • Establish and monitor project budgets and adherence of variance controls
  • Manage site communications and issue resolution.
  • Oversee construction of the project and conduct periodic site inspections to ensure quality, timing, and adherence to organization standards
  • Liaison with various internal departments including Design and Construction, Restaurant

Operations, Supply Chain, Real Estate, Franchising, and Legal to ensure projects are completed as per plan * Work cross functionally with Franchisee’s throughout the construction process

  • Manage day-to-day tasks on projects in construction phases and provide appropriate recommendations regarding the status of work
  • Recommend and/or lead department and process improvement projects

What we are looking for from you:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction management
  • Previous experience in restaurant and/or retail project management or equivalent
  • Bonus points for PMP Certification
  • Technical Degree in Construction field (i.e. P.Eng, CET, B. Arch etc.)
  • Ability to travel within Canada 50% of the time
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects within tight timeframes
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage strict capital expenditures

Ability to negotiate with external contractors and landlords on cost of work and timelines

  • Solid understanding of basic and advanced project management principles with the ability to mentor fellow Project Managers to drive high performance and contribute to continuous improvement
  • High attention to detail and strategic in thinking
  • Self directed with the ability to take initiative and ensure projects are always being conducted effectively and with proper governance
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision while also being able to collaborate with a team
  • Proficient in Google Workspace with some familiarity of applicable project management softwares
  • Ability to understand the business need for each project and use considerable judgement to make ongoing decisions that are best for the organization
