A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR

As a Senior Residential Counselor you work on program development and administration for behavioral health care services to the agency’s adult clients through the provision of Client Care Services. Responsible for medication monitoring; residential counseling skills; crisis prevention and intervention; proper documentation procedures; ability to be a member of a treatment team; facility management; scheduling; administrative supervision; staff training and orientation; individual services coordination. By adhering to all safety standards, government regulations, and corporate policies, you ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.

You are responsible for reporting any changes or concerns promptly, keeping up-to-date and accurate records of interactions and progress. You find the opportunity to participate in residents’ lives very rewarding! If any medical or psychiatric emergencies occur, you immediately set in motion the appropriate crisis management procedures. You also get to participate in case management and supportive counseling. You advocate for residents’ benefits and coordinate with local service providers. As you assist residents in accessing services and reaching goals, you find a great deal of satisfaction in their progress.

QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in a mental health and or other appropriate human services discipline or a High School Diploma/GED plus 4 years of related work experience
  • If the Bachelor’s degree is not in the human services field, the candidate must have at least 2 years of related work experience
  • Additional qualifications can include an RN or LPN with two years of related work experience
  • In addition to the above, the candidate must have one-year experience in a residential setting.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of residence and no more than five points on the driving record
  • Must be able to successfully complete a physical, drug screen, and background
