Individual contributor responsible for business results through delivery of risk control services within an assigned area of the business. Works within the broadest limits of authority requiring the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination. Drives risk control expertise for the most complex risks and participates in the underwriting decision making process. Role spans across Canada for the Construction practice.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Engages with underwriting to drive corporate strategies construction industry practice.
  • Optimizes distribution engagement, strengthening relationships with brokers to provide customer solutions.
  • Analyzes risk control strengths and weaknesses to maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace.
  • Collaborates with segment leadership on risk control strategies to positively impact loss ratios, new business goals and retention requirements to achieve profitability targets.
  • Develops Canadian risk control strategies to positively impact loss ratios, new business goals and retention requirements to achieve profitability targets.
  • Supports Canada with technical expertise to ensure ongoing organizational learning, development, and advancement of industry expertise and specialization.
  • Works across the BUs to review and direct the evaluation and assessment of large and complex risks for risks with significant exposures impacting multiple product lines with a focus on national or international accounts. Applies risk control policies, guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and drives the resolution of critical/cost driver risk control issues.
  • Influences the direction, development and implementation of risk control policy, operating plans and business strategy. Presents business need with recommended new products and services with a global focus.
  • Develops and maintains business relationships with internal and external business partners. Known expert among Risk Control staff and CNA partners within the industry, actively shaping new industry relationships

May perform additional duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, decision making and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
  • Senior level technical and business management acumen and knowledge of insurance, risk management principles, practices and procedures. Contract management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple projects and teams.
  • Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business situations.
  • Ability to achieve results, at the portfolio level, by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the construction segment needed for CNA’s portfolio.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Masters preferred or equivalent experience with professional designation(s) needed for the industry, segment or LOB being represented.
  • Typically, a minimum of ten years of risk control experience.
  • Applicable designations preferred
