As a Social Worker with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
- Be responsible for providing clinical and consultative social work services to clients and families.
- Work without general supervision to perform duties including monitoring of all clients to ensure correct degree of intervention, arranging funeral decisions, and completing care assessments in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Coordinate admission process with the facility liaison and facility staff and provide orientation for new residents and families.
- Participate in identifying applicable community resources for clients and families.
- Provide inservices to staff and represent the department on external committees as directed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Masters of Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work and three (3) years’ of Social Work experience preferably in a extended or intermediate care setting.
Experience in resident’s and family counselling.
Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Listening and information seeking skills that promote communication and lead to a cooperative approach to problem solving within an interdisciplinary setting.
- Knowledge of developmental stages in the individual and family life cycle and of psychosocial issues that may occur in response to changing health and dependency needs.
- Basic knowledge of counselling skills.
- Basic knowledge of other health disciplines and their role in healthcare.
- Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the client.
- Demonstrated ability to gather relevant data and make a multi-dimentional assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct social assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to apply systems theory to practice in Social Work assessment and intervention.
- Demonstrated ability to draw out and honour information that will contribute to understanding the clients’ situation.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, staff and community agency personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the role.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
