Job Description

As a SUPERNUMERARY FIREFIGHTER, you must ensure the safety of our staff by preventing fire hazard and accidents. More specifically, you will:

• Carry out security tours to identify risks, and propose solutions to reduce fire hazards and injuries;
• Promote a culture of health and safety through exemplary behaviour in this area and also by ensuring the proper use of protective equipment;
• Promote HSE awareness continuously within the department by leading by example and providing instruction, information, training and supervision to ensure the safe performance of quality control inspectors and all other employees involved in your daily operations;
• Ensure that Davie Shipbuilding’s environmental policies are followed in all construction and repair projects;
• Provide employees with the knowledge to recognize safe work practices, the knowledge to work only in accordance with safe practices and to advise colleagues when an unsafe practice is taking place. Also provide guidance to production supervisors when they are unsure if a practice is safe and how they should proceed;
• Ensure the security of facilities and equipment; establish policies to prevent or minimize loss, theft, vandalism or other damages;
• Act as a first responder to emergency calls with injuries.

Qualifications

• You have the Firefighter I professional qualification or other relevant fire training;
• You have the ability to work under pressure;
• You are versatile, flexible, a team player, a good listener, results oriented and you like to build good relationships.

Additional Information

In order to be selected, it is mandatory that you successfully undergo and pass the investigation and security clearance process required by the Federal Government’s Contract Security Program.
