Your opportunity:
The Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies (CrimSL) is a research and teaching unit whose faculty and students study crime, order and security from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and theoretical approaches. We offer an undergraduate program as well as graduate programs for masters and doctoral students, providing a solid foundation for understanding aspects of crime, justice and the processes of social order and disorder. With various backgrounds in sociology, history, law, psychology, philosophy and political science, our faculty are engaged in Canadian and international criminological research.
Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Undergraduate and Graduate Assistant will provide administrative support to the Centre’s Undergraduate and Graduate Office’s. Key duties will include providing administrative support for departmental Teaching Assistant recruitment and assignments, providing detailed information on program inquires, updating and maintaining information on digital platforms, checking the completeness of applications, and other administrative duties, as assigned.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
- Receiving and passing on evaluation materials for review
- Maintaining information on digital platforms
- Coordinating the recruitment and training process for teaching assistants
- Checking completeness of applications
- Interpreting guidelines to determine the eligibility of graduate students for teaching assistantships
- Preparing draft employment letters using templates
- Collating and organizing data for various reports
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum two years recent and related experience in a post-secondary environment providing detailed academic and other information to students and faculty
- Experience providing administrative support for undergraduate and/or graduate programs
- Demonstrated professional experience with student information systems and databases
- Experience interpreting and applying policies, procedures, and collective agreements
- Experience supporting the recruitment process and preparing draft employment letters using templates
- Advanced skills in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive)
- Experience navigating and entering data in HRIS and ROSI, or similar HR and student information systems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills, with the ability to be an effective team player
- Attention to detail, especially when working with high volumes and competing priorities
- Ability to exercise initiative and judgment, organize work and establish priorities in a flexible way, and successfully meet deadlines with competing priorities and interruptions
Assets (Nonessential):
- Familiarity interpreting and applying policies of the CUPE 3902 (Unit 1) collective agreement would be an asset
- Experience using the Faculty of Arts and Science TAShip portal is an asset.
