Responsibilities
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, as a member of the frontline team, the Unit Resource Nurse (URN) is a Registered Nurse with extensive experience and knowledge of a particular service required to mentor whose ultimate aim is to meet the immediate clinical needs of the nursing unit. The specific focus is on the successful integration of novice nurses and helping to bridge the skill mix divide. The URN works collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Educators (CNE) and Health Services Managers (HSM) to identify learning needs and meet the needs of the novice nurses, preceptors, and the entire team.
The role requires a flexible full-time work schedule and this may include a combination of days and nights and may include weekends. The URN schedule is designed to meet the needs of the novice nurses, preceptors and the entire team.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
- Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
- Relevant CNA or other Specialty Certification as required
- Minimum of three (3) years unit specific experience required
- Demonstrated personal commitment to ongoing life-long learning and professional development
- Demonstrates clinical performance that meets or exceeds the performance standards for the service
- Consistently acts professionally and serves as a role model
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; consistently demonstrate effective relationships with an interdisciplinary team at all levels of the organization. Demonstrates effective communication skills and effective conflict resolution skills
- Ability to multi-task and be an effective flexible team leader in an unpredictable, diverse and changing clinical environment
- Demonstrates effective mentor/preceptor skills
- Demonstrates reliability, responsibility, and dependability in fulfilling obligations
- A positive role model in change management, quality improvement and evidence-based practice
- Ability to reflect critically on professional and leadership behaviour and modify when required; self-identify learning needs and establish a plan for ongoing professional development
- Basic knowledge and competence in the use of computers and keyboarding
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of adult learning principles
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work
- Full Time, Long Assignment; 75 hours bi-weekly
- Commencing as soon as possible; approximate one year assignment

Salary Information
$36.1019 – $42.8477 hourly
$44.3473 hourly with 25 years’ nursing experience
