Job Summary and Purpose:
Reporting to the Materials and Logistics Supervisor, the Yardhand performs a variety of tasks related to the shop/yard of a railroad contracting company.
Unionized Position
$29.02/ hour, benefits, pension all provided
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities: * Keeps the yard clean, neat, safe and operating efficiently.
- Manually sorts and stockpiles materials and prepares materials for shipping.
- Loads and unloads materials, machinery, and tools, and maintains material stockpiles.
- Cleans incoming equipment using power wash equipment.
- Other tasks related to facility maintenance.
- Follows company and industry safety rules, practices and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Operation of Forklift and Skid Steer.
- Ability to read and understand instructions and work specifications.
- Ability to understand and follow safety rules, policies, procedures and regulars.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Able to work independently with some direction.
- Capable of following written and verbal instruction and documented procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow safety rules, policies, procedures and regulations.
- Manage time effectively and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to multi-task.
- Problem-solving and analytical ability.
- Lift/carry or maneuver heavy material or equipment (up to 100 lbs.).
- Valid and clean G level driver’s license.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background checks including drug screening.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Works outdoors and exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
- Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending and handling of materials, equipment and tools.
- Use hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools.
- Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery and tools up to 100 pounds.
- Exposed to loud noise and active material/equipment yard.
- Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, safety vests and hearing protection, as required by the company.
