Global Banking and Markets
Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.
Purpose & Major Accountabilities
The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the overall Trade Services client experience by accurately and efficiently reviewing and processing all trade finance transactions in accordance with Bank policies and procedures, industry standards and regulations and established Service Level Agreements.
- Processing, reviewing, and releasing trade finance transactions related to Documentary Letter of Credit, Documentary Collections and Standby Letter of Credit/Guarantees in the T360.
- Determining processing priorities and organizing workload ensuring all urgent transactions are processed efficiently to deliver excellent customer experience and ensure SLA is met.
- For reviewing import and export letter of credit shipping documents, to use independent and sound judgement to eliminate operational and financial risks for the Bank. Thoroughly reviewing all shipping documents to ensure they are strictly compliant with the terms and conditions outlined in the LC and in compliance with applicable UCP rules.
- Ensuring transactions handled are in alignment with the Bank’s compliance policies and procedures.
- Identifying inherent compliance and documentary risks inherent in transactions for appropriate escalation.
- Responding promptly and expertly to client, internal partner and correspondent bank inquiries, issues, and complaints; developing workable solutions or escalating to Management as required.
- Building effective work relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contact.
- Act as back-up to other Trade Services Specialists as required.
Education/Work Experience
- Thorough and complete knowledge of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, Uniform Rules for Collection, the Bills of Exchange Act, world shipping practices, International Law and customs relating to Letters of Credit and Canadian/Foreign customs and statutory requirements, SWIFT procedures and any other applicable trade finance rules and regulations.
- Conversant with trade related products, services and processes.
- Working knowledge of Bank’s business-related products and services.
- Working knowledge of the Bank’s Anti Money Laundering and compliance policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in computer applications related to Trade Finance, Microsoft Office and Adobe.
- Able to solve basic computer related issues/problems.
- Practical trade finance processing experience.
- Preferably a Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS).
- Knowledge of Documentary Collections processing, ICC600, URR525, Inco Terms, ISP 98 Trade Product Folios.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and work independently.
