Here’s the job opportunity…

We are looking for an Assistant Vice President, Financial Reporting, Investment and Fund Accounting to join our dynamic ivari team based in Toronto. This position is accountable for the accurate and timely production of the quarterly financial reporting for Wilton Re (Canada)’s (WRC) Canadian operations for use by the Bermuda regulator, the BMA, and Wilton Re as needed. In addition, the successful incumbent will be accountable for the financial reporting of ivari, and WRC Branch operation for the Canadian regulator. This role will report to the SVP, Finance.

You will…

  • Provide Finance leadership with respect to the company’s financial reporting with accountability for all change management functions performed by Finance
  • Be accountable to oversee the company’s investment accounting outsourced provider and manage the day-to-day relationships between the company, its investment custodian, and futures trading brokerage firm
  • Work with our investment manager, ivari Investments and Investment Product teams, and the Corporate Actuarial team responsible for ALM to ensure the company’s investment activities are well coordinated, accounted for accurately, and related fees are validated and paid promptly
  • Oversee the company’s Fund Accounting outsource provider, ensuring the Segregated Fund statements are accurately produced and audited on a timely basis
  • Work with leaders across the CFO Area and Corporate Systems to identify and implement process and automation improvements opportunities
  • Be accountable for day-to-day management of the company’s finance systems
  • Participate and lead in projects as may be needed to advance ivari toward its strategic goals, like IFRS 17 and our business partner transformation project
  • Be accountable for the development and maintenance of the Finance SharePoint site(s)
  • Oversee the completion of key financial surveys related to ivari’s and its affiliates’ operations

What we are looking for…

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Accounting)
  • Professional Canadian accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) required
  • CFA or other professional investment related designation would be an asset
  • 10 to 15 years’ Finance area experience, with not less than 5 years in a leadership role
  • Execution of large process improvement / change projects
  • Strong leadership of a financial reporting team for a life insurance company would be an asset
  • A detailed understanding of the capital markets and the investment types typically held by large life insurance companies
  • Working experience in the areas of treasury, investment accounting and expense management
  • Accounting for multi-national organizations reporting on multiple accounting bases including IFRS
  • Team leadership in a highly efficient and disciplined financial close environment
  • Implementation or re-engineering of finance / reporting systems
  • A sound understanding of the tools, processes and infrastructure that underlay the user facing finance applications
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex systems and data challenges
  • Previous work experience in or with the investment management industry
  • LEAN, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies would be an asset
  • Consulting or 3rd party service delivery to finance teams
  • Change leadership practices
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Able to build excellent working relationships with all levels and departments within the organization
