Job description: What is the opportunity?
As part of the Wholesale Financial Control team in our Toronto head office you will be part of a collaborative team culture that strives to challenge ourselves to be our best, think progressively to keep growing, and work together to deliver collective results.
As Manager, Platform Wholesale Finance, you will play a key role in leading strategic projects and provide oversight and accounting advisory to the Wholesale platform. You will lead operational accounting projects and cross-enterprise initiatives on behalf of the wholesale platform. You will coordinate across Capital Markets’ Global Finance teams (Canada, US, UK, and APAC) on core initiatives impacting the Bank and Wholesale businesses, financial control processes, and quarterly financial reporting and have the opportunity to partner with multiple functional stakeholders and senior management across Finance, and have exposure across different business lines.
What will you do?
- Provide oversight and accounting advisory to the Wholesale platform, seek out opportunities to improve operational accounting processes and drive consistency of financial reporting globally.
- Perform accounting research and provide accounting guidance to financial control, product control and performance management as needed;
- Ensure consistent global application of accounting guidelines and procedures
- Review and provide advice on accounting issues and transactions
- Lead operational accounting projects and cross-enterprise initiatives on behalf of the wholesale platform:
- Represent the wholesale platform; Exercise impact and influence to obtain stakeholder buy-in
- Assess downstream impacts of projects with interaction with the Statutory & Regulatory Reporting group, Internal and External Auditors, Risk Capital Groups, Risk Management, Performance Management and Financial Control.
- Drive projects to resolution without sacrificing a seamless control environment.
- Effectively manage quarterly reporting processes, including key SOX controls. Act as a point of contact with internal/external auditors and all regional Financial Controllers to ensure accurate reporting of financial instrument classifications.
- Act as a liaison and subject matter expert on all topics relating to new Financial Instruments standards, including classification decisions, disclosure requirements, and proper accounting for transactions
- Coordinate the reporting of certain annual disclosures and annual key controls tests
- Prepare the quarterly scorecard in collaboration with Human resource, Operational Risk, Internal Audit and Compliance
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- 3+ years of high level involvement in financial reporting
- Ability to work independently and manage numerous priorities simultaneously
- Knowledge of IFRS and Capital Markets business lines/products
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Advanced user proficiency with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, spreadsheet/financial accounting skills, and any other related accounting software
Nice-to-have
- Experience with RBC’s Financial System
- Chartered Accountant – CA
