The role in a nutshell

In this role, you will be accountable for ensuring the robustness and accuracy of metal accounting processes across the Industrial Assets. The role will drive measurement system and data base improvements to establish a world class metals balance from concentrate to metal and by-products.

You will support individual sites by completing a wide range of tasks to improve their performance and profitability.

More specifically, you will be responsible for and expected to:

  • Work with individual sites to map their existing metal accounting process and ensure robustness and accuracy of the metal balance processes through an auditing process;
  • Identify and assist the sites in implementing metallurgical accounting practices resulting in improved processing plants performance and profitability;
  • Develop best in class metallurgical accounting practices which includes weighing, moisture determination, sampling protocols, assaying techniques and stockpile management from concentrate and secondary materials inputs through to finished products/by-products;
  • Lead and engage site multidisciplinary teams aimed at improving metallurgical accounting practices;
  • Champion sharing and implementation of best metallurgical accounting practices across the Zinc Industrial Assets;
  • Develop best practices from a metallurgical accounting perspective during plant turnarounds (inventory weighing/sampling and defined plant clean-up activities and accounting practices only performed during these periods);
  • Measure the accuracy and robustness of site metallurgical accounting system through an auditing program as well as identify opportunities from improvement based on the results of these audits;
  • Complete periodic audits and testing of measurement systems to ensure systems are within defined bias and provide recommendations as to how to reduce or eliminate these sources of bias;
  • Monitor monthly and annual site metallurgical balances hi-lighting sources of unaccountable metal and work with site teams to improve metal accountability;
  • Assist sites with capital justification with respect to improving metal accounting infrastructure;
  • Assist and support the commercial team when assessing metal accounting risks with potential need feed sources;
  • Foster a learning and continuous improvement culture to improve all aspects of business performance, sustainability, and business growth;
  • Promote and reinforce a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Qualifications in Metallurgical or Chemical engineering or another qualification with relevant experience in mineral processing. Metallurgical accounting experience is a strong asset;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role during which you have demonstrated your resilience, business acumen and understanding of the different stakes;
  • Experience in operating assets and/or change management within an operation;
  • You are a process-oriented person, you have a (very) strong eye for detail and a high level of integrity;
  • You have strong interpersonal skills, whether with internal or external stakeholders and you demonstrate mobilizing leadership;
  • You are a self-starter, motivated and have a strong analytical ability a good negotiation skills.

Languages: English. The knowledge of French, Spanish, Italian and/or Russian will be considered an asset.

Travel: In this role, you will be expected to visit and audits operations within the Zinc Metallurgical Industrial Assets located in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia for approximately 30% of the time. You must also be willing to work with colleagues located in different time zones.
